I came to yoga late in life. Not being a natural athlete nor a “gym bunny " I had only briefly attended some aerobic classes in my early thirties. Swimming was my only healthy activity.
Purely by chance I was introduced to yoga whilst on a weekend trip to France. I arrived with painful tense shoulders and left with some improvement. Due to the immediate positive results, and a determination to learn as much as possible about this ancient philosophy. This weekend changed my life. At that time my posture was appalling and I had little strength in my shoulder muscles and in my core. I had round-shoulders as a child and developed a mild scoliosis in my teens. Consequently, by my mid-twenties I was regularly at the osteopath with painful back and shoulder problems. This became a regular (& costly) feature in my life for many years. Until the afore mentioned weekend.
Over the following years I attended a variety of classes and read everything I could find on this captivating subject. Simultaneously I was working on my posture, starting to correct the causes of many of my previous problems. This lead me eventually to a teacher to whom I had an immediate affinity. She taught in a different style to any of the previous classes I had attended. Her anatomical knowledge, working within a safe and reassuring framework was reassuring whilst respecting the integrity of the joints. I had found the Traditional Yoga Association®.
...and the rest is history!
